The Books I Read in 2022

One of my goals for the past couple of years has been to read more. Last year, I set my biggest goal ever of forty books. About halfway through the year, I was crushing it, so I upped my goal to fifty books. On December 31st, I finished the last page of The Two Towers and brought my final total to 52 books for the year! Here are all the books I read in 2022:

Favorite Books of 2022:

  1. Respectable Sins - Jerry Bridges
      – I read this along with my small group in the spring. This book was super convicting and made me thankful for my Savior. It looks at the common sins that we easily brush off and shows how they can bring us to ruin. Both L and I said it was one of our most favorite studies we have done.
  2. Unoffendable - Brant Hansen
      – I struggle with anger. The premise of this book is that there is no such thing as human “righteous anger.” We often feel we have the right to be angry or offended at something that was said or done to us. However, as this book points out, that is not in the Bible. Super challenging stuff here. Highly recommend.
  3. A Man Called Ove - Fredrik Backman
      – This was my favorite fiction book by far. It tells the story of Ove, who is a grumpy old man that has had a rough life and is ready to end it all. But then some new neighbors move in across the street, and everything changes. I laughed, cried, and was convicted about my negativity while reading this one.
  4. The Psychology of Money - Morgan Housel
      – I’m a sucker for personal finance books and blogs. This one is different however. Rather than being the nuts and bolts of how to invest, budget, etc., it breaks down how we make money decisions based on what we believe rather than what the spreadsheet says.
  5. How to Astronaut - Terry Virts
      – As long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be an astronaut. This was a fun book answering many questions about space travel and life on the ISS from an astronaut who spent over 200 days there.
  6. The Wright Brothers - David McCullough
      – Aviation is absolutely fascinating to me. Ask my wife, and she will tell you any time we are at an airport, I get this little kid look in my eye. So, of course, a book about the two guys who finally made powered flight happen was wonderful. The history behind how these brothers were able to persevere and overcome so many challenges is truly inspiring.
