Shackleton's Incredible Voyage
I recently finished Alfred Lansing's book Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage. This book tells the story of Ernest Shackleton's 1914 expedition to Antarctica, where he aimed to be the first to cross the continent on foot. Unfortunately, in January 1915, the ship became trapped in the ice floes and was eventually crushed. The crew was then forced to try to survive in one of the most remote and harsh environments on the planet.
Lansing does a masterful job of transporting the reader right into the midst of Shackleton's crew on the ice of Antarctica. You’ll feel the cold and the desperation of the men as you turn each page. Even if you’re not usually a “reader,” I don’t think you’ll be able to put this thrilling adventure down. The true grit and determination of the human spirit shine brightly in this book. I can't recommend it highly enough!
